Supernova 2008br and 2008co in IC 2522

2008br was discovered by
Berto Monard (South Africa).
This one is a type II.
We have a DSS Photometry reference image made by Odd Trondal.

These supernova are in the
Constellation Antlia.
A note from Berto:
It's always good to frequent 'good' galaxies, those that are expected to produce SNe in abundance. This applies to about 10% of my 'program' galaxies.
Together with those others, IC 2522 is therefore one of my favorite galaxies. It's a late type spiral and shows face on. Its distance to us is not too far and SNe of both types (Ia and especially II) are expected to occur often and they are well within reach of small telescopes. The bonus with IC 2522 is that another galaxy lies just South of it. Two good galaxies on one image.
It was actually a follow up observation on SN 2008br in IC 2522 that produced the find of SN 2008co there. I have had a similar situation with SNe 2006dd and 2006mr in NGC 1316.
Other galaxies which gave me two finds were NGC 3054 and ESO 244-31. Off course they are all favorites. Just have a look at them!
One thing that strikes me is that many of the good Southern galaxy groups often lie behind denser parts of the Milky way. So many foreground stars that cause added difficulties with inspection.
